Hello everyone, and welcome to Rescue Records. I'm JIM, and I'm the CEO and first artist on this new independent label with a new CD release titled, "LONG TIME COMIN".
The CD is aptly titled, because it has been a long time coming. I've been a musician in the Tampa Bay, Fl area for the past 20 years. For this CD, I wrote, produced, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered every song.
The talk box is a device that is used in conjunction with other instruments to produce a unique vocal sound. Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh used this device with guitars. Roger Troutman of the Zapp Band, used the device with a keyboard to create such hits as "So Ruff So Tuff", "More Bounce", "Computer Love", "I Want To Be Your Man", etc. The talk box is a device that I and use extensively, along with vocal and instrumental performances on this CD.
My musical style can be described as a blend of R&B and Hip Hop. A mixture of old, new, and innovative. My vocals are reminiscent of Gerald Levert, Jeffrey Osborne, and sometimes have a character that you will come to recognize only as JIM. I mix vocal performances with talk box performances that are comparable to the one and only Roger Troutman.
I've been in the music industry for the past 20 years in the Tampa Bay, Florida area as a bass player, songwrtiter, producer, lead and background vocalist, talk boxer, and as a keyboard and drum machine programer. I single handedly wrote, performed, arranged, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered this CD in my studio for my new record label, "Rescue Records".
When I first heard the song "More Bounce" by Roger Troutman being played on the radio, I stopped what I was doing and listened to the whole song. I was so blown away, that from that moment, I made myself a promise that I would learn to emulate that sound. After Roger Troutman passed away, I made myself another promise that I would continue with the sound he established, and try to continue to please his fan base, as well as introduce new fans to the hauntingly beautiful sound of the talk box.
Three weeks after this CD's debut on www.cdbaby.com, it made the number 12, 7, and 4 spot on the CD Baby "Top Sellers Now" top sellers of the week list. People are buying this CD for a reason. They find at least one song on it that seems as if it were written specifically for their past, present, or hopeful future situation in life. "'Missumom" and "Are U Ready" were written about the two most special women in my life. I wrote those songs, and I still get teary eyed when I hear them.
